Bukit Badung: a peninsula full of variety
Relax, explore the natural landscape or enjoy numerous water sports: the southern tip of Bali – the Bukit Badung peninsula – offers a wide range of leisure opportunities. From the hip surf destination Kuta to the mythical Padang Padang Beach and upscale beach resort Nusa Dua.
A modest paradise
Another ‘must see’ destination is Padang Padang Beach. Although quite small, this beautiful beach is truly unforgettable. Many people arrive in Bali and head straight for this tiny paradise on earth. The walk to the beach begins with a descent down a long staircase wedged between 2 huge rock faces. The reward will be a stunning view of the green-blue sea, a cave and enormous rocks along the coast. Many believe that this beach in South Bali is the most beautiful beach in the world. Perhaps it’s the pleasant temperature of the water, the protection of the rocks, the captivating view or the perfect surf waves. Those may be a few reasons why Padang Padang Beach was chosen as the setting for the Julia Roberts film ‘Eat Pray Love’.
Experienced surfers head to Kuta
Kuta is a real paradise when it comes to surfing. The southern part stretches across the Bukit Badung peninsula and with its white sand ocean floor and perfect high waves, this may be the best spot in Bali for very experienced surfers. Many hotels have sprung up to cater to this crowd. A former fishing village, Kuta was one of the first towns on Bali to develop a tourist industry and is still a very important tourist destination in Indonesia.
